Learning 2.0 - "Automation" Vrs "Innovation"

So I hear the e learning industry is fast moving from a state of "Stale Automation" which is just putting a bunch of static learning objects or content pieces in a learning management system and to paradiym of "innovation" and I will dare say "collective innovation or learning."

According to Jane Knight, head of research at Learning Light, with Web 2.0 technologies, elearning is now moving into a "new era of sharing content, colloborating and syndicating learning materials online." How can Learning 2.0 really become a viable, usable philosophy instead of some snazzy marketing term that eLearning technology solutions developers misuse?

I believe in the tenets of Learning 2.0 as they pertain to creating and delivering personalized, social and lifelong learning through web platforms utilizing Web 2.0 principles and technology. I remember an interesting story about Learning Vacations (where you are guranteed to go home from your vacation with a new skill). Fastcompany about the changing demographics of the US and how this might lead to continuous learning for workers especially older workers. Learning a new skill in your retirement might just become as easy as logging into your elearning website and purchasing the courses you wish to take, collaborate with other retirees across the world and when you go on that Mediterranean vacation, guess what you can take courses in world history from the comfort of your hotel room.
